Directions in French


In French, the expressions of directions (à gauche = left, tout droit = straight ahead, à droite = right, etc.) must be mastered at beginner level (level A1). They allow you to indicate and understand an itinerary, to give or ask for a route. Thanks to the video below, you will learn the directions in French:

Thanks to this video, you will learn the most common directions in French. To understand and pronounce the direction expressions correctly in French, watch the video several times, repeating after the teacher. When the teacher says “Tourner à gauche”, say “Tourner à gauche”. When the teacher says “Aller à tout droit”, say “Aller tout droit”. When the teacher says “Continuer tout droit”, say “Continuer tout droit”. Thus, you will be able to understand orally and pronounce the direction expressions well in French. To do this well, watch the video several times, repeating each direction aloud after the teacher.

To fully understand in writing the expressions of directions and to write them well in French, copy them several times. Use the drawings in the video to help you understand the meaning of each direction. Here is the list of direction expressions presented in the video (in chronological order):
